AN UNEXPECTED STAY IN COLORADO SPRINGS

We had planned  a stop in Colorado Springs in order to have the oil changed on our motorhome before heading the final 30 miles to our summer work camping job in Larkspur, Colorado. It turned out that the mechanic found an issue with the front wheel bearings which had to be resolved immediately before we could drive any further. So we were stuck overnight staying in the garage's parking lot.

We made the best of our extra time in Colorado Springs by attending a Skysox game. The Skysox are the AAA farm team of the Milwaukee Brewers. Security Service Field is different from many baseball stadiums in that you enter at the top of the grandstand, and everyone has to walk down to their seats. The berm beyond third base is sponsored by Barefoot Wines. The white spot in the middle of the lawn is the Barefoot logo. We had a relaxing evening with a few clouds in the sky on a cool spring evening in the closest city to both Pikes Peak and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

It was overcast with the potential of rain at game time. Therefore the lights were on early. The scoreboard depicts the Southern slope of the Rocky Mountains, which are to the west of town.

This was Military Appreciation Night, with one military family being recognized as the military family of the game. This award winning family were relocated to the "Best Seats in the House". The player jerseys were camouflage in color.

Sox the fox, the Skysox mascot, was all over the ballpark throughout the game, entertaining the crowd.  He even had a matching uniform to honor the military in attendance.

First responders in Colorado Springs were also recognized this evening. The "C" from the Colorado state flag was used for the "C"  in Colorado and an "S" for Springs, followed by "FD" for the fire department. There were also players wearing jerseys with "CSPD" on the front for the police department. Later in the season there will be a softball game between representatives from the fire department and the police department before a Skysox game, with the jerseys being auctioned off for charity afterwards. This is a classy way for the Skysox to give back to their community.

We had fun and will be back to see the Skysox in action again this summer, since our campground in Larkspur is within an easy drive to Colorado Springs.
